BRAZZAVILLE, June 28 (Reuters) -The Republic of Congo has proposed new oil and gas and fertiliser projects to Russia's Lukoil LKOH.MM, state television reported on Thursday evening during a state visit by President Denis Sassou Nguesso to Moscow.

Sassou Nguesso and his hydrocarbons minister met Ivan Romanovsky, vice president of Russia's second-largest oil producer Lukoil, to discuss the potential for new ventures in the Central African country, the report said.

"The Minister of Hydrocarbons... put forward a number of initiatives relating to new opportunities, both in the upstream and downstream sectors and in other areas of gas exploitation," Romanovsky said in the report.

"One of these opportunities was a gas-chemical activity, in particular fertiliser production. We have taken the time to study these proposals and we hope to respond very soon."

He did not give further details.

Lukoil already has a joint offshore oil and gas project with Italy's Eni in Republic of Congo.

The country is the fourth-largest oil producer in sub-Saharan Africa, producing 280,000 barrels per day as of 2022, according to the U.S. Commerce Department's International Trade Administration.
