SAN JOSE, Oct 25 (Reuters) -Costa Rican coffee exports rose 1.6% to reach 1.02 million 60- kilogram bags for the 2023/2024 harvesting season, which ended last month, according to data released by national coffee institute ICAFE on Friday.

The Central American nation known for its high-quality arabica beans shipped 1.00 million bags in the previous season.

The bump in 2023/2024 exports came even as overall production fell around 16% to settle at about 1.25 million bags.

ICAFE added that September exports rose 55%, compared to the same month last year, to reach 105,635 bags.

One of the region's smaller coffee producers, Costa Rica typically exports about 85% of its crop to foreign markets.

In August, ICAFE estimated that the country's 2024/2025 crop will likely rise almost 6% to total 1.31 million bags.

Coffee crops tend to follow a biennial cycle in which one bigger crop is followed by a smaller one.

The coffee season in Central America and Mexico runs from October to September.
