EUROPEAN FUTURES STEADY AS ELECTION DAY ARRIVES
European equity futures are steady on Tuesday as U.S. voters head to the voting booths to decide on their next president: Republican former President Donald Trump or Democrat Vice-President Kamala Harris.
Polls are showing the two candidates virtually even. The winner may not be known for days after Tuesday's vote, though Trump has already signalled that he will attempt to fight any defeat, as he did in 2020.
Markets are on edge about how Trump's proposed imposition of import tariffs could impact inflation and weigh on global growth, with stocks, bonds and the dollar all expected to move on the result.
For now, futures are steady. Euro STOXX 50 futures STXEc1 are up less than 0.1%. Futures on the DAX FDXc1, CAC FCEc1 and FTSE FFIc1 are down 0.1% to up 0.1%.
Earnings season is in full swing with plenty of companies reporting results on Tuesday.
Hugo Boss BOSSn.DE recorded third-quarter operating profit that was slightly above expectations.
Orsted ORSTED.CO, the world's largest offshore wind farm developer, on Tuesday reported third-quarter operating profit slightly below expectations and narrowed its full-year profit forecast.
