Two Italian ministers criticised the European Central Bank after it cut interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point on Thursday, saying the move was insufficient and showed a lack of courage.

UniCredit's investment in Germany's Commerzbank CBKG.DE has laid the basis for talks over a tie-up that could help Europe build stronger banks to compete with U.S. and Asian rivals, CEO Andrea Orcel said on Thursday.

UniCredit's opening gambit in a takeover play for Commerzbank has rekindled a debate about the future of German banking, prompting Berlin to pause selling shares in the lender and turning the spotlight on Deutsche Bank as a possible rival suitor.

(*) A possible tie-up between the banks depends on business models and must serve competitiveness, the president of Germany's central bank Joachim Nagel said in a radio interview on Friday.

The Italian energy company has broadened the powers of its finance chief as part of a sweeping business reorganisation unveiled on Thursday, giving him responsibility to oversee its Enilive and Plenitude energy transition units.


AUTOS, STELLANTIS STLAM.MI

China's Dongfeng Motor Group 0489.HK needs to evaluate sales prospects in Europe before deciding on the possible opening of a factory in Italy or elsewhere the region, one of its top executives said on Thursday.

(*) Stellantis will suspend production of the fully electric Fiat 500 small car for four weeks due to sluggish demand, it said on Thursday.

On the occasion of its CEO Flavio Cattaneo visiting the country, the Italian utility confirmed on Thursday plans to invest around 3.2 billion euros in Brasil over the 2024-2026 period.

The Italian bank has decided to sell real estate assets with an overall book value of around 295 million euros, it said on Thursday.


(*) DOVALUE DOVA.MI

The Italian debt collector said on Friday that its Greek unit doValue Greece had signed a real estate asset management contract with a major local bank with a net book value of around 200 million euros ($221.64 million).
