NASDAQ, TECH LEAD MARKET TO HIGHER CLOSE

All three of the major U.S. stock indexes ended higher on Monday, led by gains in the Nasdaq .IXIC, with the technology sector .SPLRCT gaining more than 1%.

Consumer discretionary .SPLRCD rose 0.7% and was the second-biggest gainer among sectors.

Volume is expected to be slower than usual this week given and early close on Wednesday and the U.S. July 4th holiday on Thursday.

Investors have been looking for signs of cooling inflation and trying to gauge when the Federal Reserve might begin cutting interest rates.

Monday's data suggested inflation could continue to subside. It showed U.S. manufacturing contracted for a third straight month in June and a measure of prices paid by factories for inputs dropped to a six-month low.

On Friday, the key monthly U.S. jobs report is due and is expected to be the main focus on the week for investors.
