TEPID START FOR STOXX AS MINERS WEIGH

The STOXX 600 .STOXX has kicked off the week hovering around flat, last up 0.1% after mostly flashing red for the first hour of trading.

Any gains are clipped by the worst-off sector, basic resources .SXPP, down 0.7%. Data over the weekend showed China's industrial output growth slowed to a five-month low in August a factor likely weighing on mining stocks.

Meanwhile, healthcare names .SXDP are the top movers, up 0.4% with France-based biopharmaceutical group Ipsen IPN.PA up 5.3% following a broker upgrade.

At the top of the STOXX 600 .STOXX is French electrical parts company Rexel .RXL.PA, soaring 10% after it rejected a takeover offer from U.S. company QXO QXO.O.

A similar story is behind one of the big gainers in London. Automotive fluid storage maker TI Fluid Systems TIFS.L is up 12.5% after rejecting Canada-based manufacturer ABC Technologies' buyout proposal.

Not far behind is Playtech PTEC.L up 8.3%, after an upbeat profit outlook.

Insurer Phoenix Group PHNX.L is down 2.8% after it said it will halt the sale of its SunLife unit.
