Turkey - Factors To Watch on Aug 8
ISTANBUL, Aug 8 (Reuters) -Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Thursday.
The lira TRYTOM=D3 traded at 33.5395 against the U.S. dollar at 0419 GMT, weakening slightly from a close of 33.50v on Wednesday
The main BIST 100 share index .XU100 closed 1.45% higher at 10,024.31 points on Wednesday.
GLOBAL MARKETS
Tech shares led a selloff in stock markets around Asia, while the yen and U.S. bonds rebounded, as global investors struggled to find their footing in a wild week for markets.
Japan's Nikkei share average was last down 1%, having earlier slumped as much as 2.5%, with chip-sector shares the biggest drag on the index. That left the Nikkei down more than 3% for the week, following Monday's 12.4% plunge, despite the ensuing two-day rebound.
ERDOGAN PROGRAM
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan will hold a meeting with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani in Ankara (1100 GMT).
TRADE MINISTER
Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat will meet with Turkey-Pakistan businesspeople in Islamabad.
INFLATION REPORT TRINFF=ECI
Central Bank Governor Fatih Karahan holds a briefing to present the bank's quarterly inflation report. The bank slightly raised its year-end inflation forecast to 38% in its previous report in May.
TREASURY
Turkish Treasury to issue a one-year USD-denominated bond via direct sale method to banks.
CENBANK DATA
Turkey's central bank will release weekly money and banking statistics.(1130 GMT)
