The lira TRYTOM=D3 traded at 33.98 against the U.S. dollar at 0605 GMT, from a close of 33.995 on Friday.


GLOBAL MARKETS

Japan's Nikkei share average fell more than 2% on Monday, with technology stocks among the biggest decliners, tracking heavy losses among Wall Street peers in the previous session.


CABINET MEETING

President Tayyip Erdogan is expected to chair a cabinet meeting at 1200 GMT, followed by a likely press conference.


BOND AUCTIONS

The Finance Ministry is to hold issuance auctions of 12-month and 4-year government bonds.


SCHOOLS OPEN

Education Minister Yusuf Tekin and other ministers will attend ceremonies for the opening of the 2024-2025 school year.


ERDOGAN'S CALL FOR ISLAMIC ALLIANCE

Erdogan said on Saturday Islamic countries should form an alliance against what he called "the growing threat of expansionism" from Israel, drawing a rebuke from the Israeli foreign minister.
