On the U.S. econ tap, the Labor Department's employment report is expected to show nonfarm payrolls probably increased by 140,000 jobs in September, after creating 142,000 jobs in the previous month. Private payrolls for September likely rose 125,000, compared with a 118,000 increase in August. The unemployment rate is expected to have remained unchanged at 4.2% in September. Meanwhile, average hourly earnings likely rose 0.3% in September, after posting a 0.4% rise in the prior month. On an annual basis, average hourly earnings probably gained 3.8% in September, matching the previous month's increase.


Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John Williams is scheduled to give opening remarks before the conference, "The Future of New York City: Focus on Jobs" at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. (0900/1300)


EBay is set to urge a federal judge to conclude that punitive damages are not available to a Massachusetts couple who sued the e-commerce company after they were the victims of a bizarre stalking and harassment campaign carried out by several of its now-former employees after an online newsletter they published drew the ire of top executives.


Investors will also look out for Canada's Ivey PMI data, which could give clues on the country's economic activity in September.


In the Latin American region, Brazil is expected to post a trade surplus of $4.70 billion in September, compared to a $4.828 billion surplus in the prior month. Additionally, Mexico's unemployment data for August will also be on the radar.
