Sept 19 (Reuters) -U.S. coastal cash crude Mars strengthened on Thursday, dealers said, bouncing off a near one-year low, dealers said.

Mars Sour gained 25 cents to a $2,75 premium to U.S. crude prices, after touching a $2.30 discount, its lowest in nearly a year.

Production from Chevron's CVX.N newest deepwater Anchor platform will likely flow on Amberjack and Mars pipelines, with the Pascagoula refinery, as well as refineries in St. James set to benefit, East Daley analysts wrote in a note.

Meanwhile, the spread between U.S. Werst Texas Intermediate crude and Brent narrowed 6 cents to settle at minus $3.71, the lowest since July.

A spread below minus $4 discourages exports of US crude.

Weak buying from refiners as they head into fall maintenance is expected to weigh on crude demand.
