US Plains HRW Wheat-Gulf basis firms, farmers await weekend rains
CHICAGO, Nov 1 (Reuters) -Spot basis bids for hard red winter (HRW) wheat were steady to stronger on Friday, rising at the U.S. Gulf, while farmers and other market participants waited for rains that were forecast to bring much-needed moisture to the region this weekend.
* The National Weather Service posted flood watches across central Oklahoma on Friday afternoon and showers were expected through Monday. The weather service said parts of Oklahoma could receive up to 8 inches (20 centimeters) of rain through Monday.
* Oklahoma and Kansas have been hard hit by a drought that has gripped much of the U.S. Plains since mid-summer and has slowed the planting and emergence of the 2025 U.S. winter wheat crop.
* The track basis for railcars of wheat at the U.S. Gulf jumped by 20 cents at bushel, while basis bids at grain elevators in Kansas and Oklahoma held steady.
* Protein premiums for HRW wheat shipped by rail to or through Kansas City rose by 3 cents a bushel for wheat with 11.0% through 11.2% protein and by 5 cents for wheat with 11.6% protein. But premiums fell by 5 to 10 cents a bushel for wheat with 11.8% through 12.8% protein. KCBT/SCA
* K.C. December hard red winter wheat KWZ24 settled down 2-1/2 cents on Friday at $5.66-3/4 a bushel on the outlooks for welcome rains in the Plains. WHE/C
