LUXURY AND TECH WEIGH ON STOXX

The STOXX 600 .STOXX is down 0.3%, with losses led by luxury names, after LVMH earnings missed estimates, while oil and gas names provide a lift, up 0.8%.

A basket of luxury brands .STXLUXP is down 2.5%, with its components featuring heavily at the bottom of the broad European index. France's LVMH .LVMH is off 5.4% while Christian Dior DIOR.PA falls 5.1% and the UK's Burberry sheds 2.6%.

It follows LVMH missing expectations with a 3% drop in third quarter sales.

Tech is also dodging any gains, with a basket of names .SX8P falling 1% as traders continue to digest semiconductor giant ASML's .ASML.AS's results published Tuesday which sent the shares down 15.6%. They are down a further 4.4% loss on Wednesday.

At the top of the index is UK hotel group Whitbread WTB.L, rising 3.2% after a Q3 trading update and announcing a dividend raise and share buyback.

Tecan Holdings is the worst off, dropping 14.3% after cutting its outlook.

The FTSE 100's best performer today is Quilter .QLT.L - shares are rising 9% to a more than 2-1/2-year high on Q3 performance.
