R&D PICKS IN EUROPE

Research and development (R&D) has become a top priority for countries aiming to stay competitive in the global marketplace.

UBS says Europe's focus on digital sovereignty, semiconductors, and sustainability gives it a unique edge.

Yet, it reckons the region should further strengthen its position, especially as the U.S. leads in AI infrastructure and China advances with initiatives like "Made in China 2025."

"The global R&D race is no longer a matter of choice, but necessity," write Sutanya Chedda and Gerry Fowler, strategists at the Swiss investment bank, who also looked at how investors can play this theme across equity markets.

Their analysis singled out players that look favourably positioned to benefit from R&D-driven growth.

Among them, UBS highlights Genmab GMAB.CO, Nemetschek NEKG.DE, SAP SAPG.DE, Ipsen IPN.PA, STMicro STMPA.PA, Ferrari RACE.MI, and Inficon IFCN.S which are "pivotal in not just surviving, but excelling, in an increasingly competitive global R&D landscape".
