US EARNINGS GROWTH VIEW IMPROVES AFTER BIG TECH RESULTS

U.S. earnings growth for the third quarter is now estimated to have increased 8.4% year over year, LSEG data showed Friday, after a week of results that included several of the big tech-related names.

The latest earnings estimate compares with estimated growth of 4.4% a week ago.

Among the positives this week were results late Thursday from Amazon.com AMZN.O. Its shares were rallying Friday following the company's stronger-than-expected results and indications that it expected healthy results in the holiday quarter.

"We've made it most of the way through the Big Tech names, and they were probably not as bad as people feared," said Rick Meckler, partner at Cherry Lane Investments, a family investment office in New Vernon, New Jersey

The latest forecast is based on results from 349 of the S&P 500 companies and estimates for the rest.
