We recently participated in Mandela Day 2022 in Cape Town, South Africa, which this year focused on feeding the local communities to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela’s humanitarian efforts.

During Mandela Day, everyone is encouraged to contribute 67 minutes from their day to do something good in the community, whether it’s volunteering or donating to a good cause. This year’s event was all about food security and climate change.

Volunteers from XM took part in the food relief project organised by the charity called Ladles of Love that fed hundreds of thousands of people during the week.

16 volunteers from XM helped out the efforts of almost 2,000 volunteers to provide food for the hungry. The event was a huge success which resulted in:

  • Over 120,000 sandwiches made
  • More than 4 tons of fresh vegetables chopped
  • 88,000 food cans donated
  • Over R1.5 million raised

Ladles of Love is one of the most prolific food charity organizations in South Africa. They support community kitchens, schools, social enterprises, and other non-profit organizations with much-needed groceries and other goods, allowing them to reach out further and touch the lives of the vulnerable. To date, they’ve served over 29 million meals through their beneficiaries since March 2020.
