SAO PAULO, Oct 25 (Reuters) -Brazilian state-run oil company Petrobras PETR4.SA said on Friday its board approved resumingworks aimedat concluding its Tres Lagoas fertilizers plant.

In a securities filing, Petrobras reaffirmed theproject would demand 3.5 billion reais ($613.2 million) in investments to be concluded, adding it expectsthe unit to startoperating in 2028.

Building works in the Tres Lagoas plant have been halted since 2015, according to the firm.

Petrobras spent years trying to sell the Tres Lagoas project and other such assets to focus on offshore petroleum fields. However, ithas been resuming investments in the sector in the last few quarters, meetinga demand from Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

The plant, located in Brazil's central state of Mato Grosso do Sul, would have capacity to produce about 1.2 million metric tons of urea and 70,000 tons of ammonia per year, according to Petrobras.
